Light trapping is without doubt the best way to see a variety of species with relatively little effort. But there are other ways and sometimes the effort of the hunt makes the reward of seeing a moth much greater.
There is some good starting advice here and elsewhere on the internet. Instead of replicating that here I’ve put together a month by month guide of ideas of species to look out for (based in Scotland, but generally applicable elsewhere), without using a light trap.
