Welcome to my world of moths!

My name is Katty Baird and this is a website to share my encounters, mostly around Scotland, discovering some of the smaller animals and plants that live all around us.

I love all wildlife, but for the past ten years or so, most of my time has been spent focussing on moths. Tracking them down, making notes and learning more about how they live their lives. Along with thousands of other moth enthusiasts, my efforts contribute to a better understanding of the fate and fortunes of moths in the UK and how we can take steps to protect their biodiversity.

Furthering scientific knowledge is a worthy motivation, but I also seek moths for simple enjoyment and to satisfy my own curiousity to know better the creatures that share my local spaces. Species don’t have to be rare, or live in exotic locations, to be celebrated. All warrant our attention, admiration and protection. Moths are fascinating insects and glimpses into their secret lives are accessible to everyone.

Navigate the pages of this website to find out more, then why not head outdoors to see what moths you have living near you?
